Power, like money, can amplify the issues you already have. Money is not really the root of evil, nor does power corrupt absolutely. Both of these ideas are distractions from the ugly truth: Money and power don’t cause us to be bad people. They reveal the badness that was there all along.

Imagine an irrigation pipe with a small leak. It may not be a big deal because the system is only on for 30 minutes a day. But what happens if it’s on all the time? Or if the water pressure doubles?
